Throwing A Successful Home Party

By Lana Spence

Celebrating any occasion is an exciting time, but when it comes to home parties, there are certain steps involved to do it right. The proper way to throw a successful home party starts with a theme and some thorough planning. Before beginning, one has to consider very carefully the budget for the event, whether it is a birthday celebration for a young child, a Sweet 16, or a wedding.

With entertainment costs soaring, many consumers are opting for a less expensive venue, such as the home. While it does present its positive side, there are numerous aspects that need to be considered. For example, the type of food, beverages, the decorations and party favors, if there are going to be any. No matter what you choose, you have to consider your budget before making a commitment. You may also have to set aside some funds toward table and chair rentals, linens and such, depending on the event and its size.

While you may save a lot of money by opting to throw a home party rather than one in a banquet hall, one needs to consider the size of their own home before preparing the guest list. It's important that everyone is comfortable instead of stepping all over each other. Furthermore, the budget may not allow for a very extensive guest list, which would probably require it to be trimmed down a bit.

A sit down meal may be the way you want to go about it, but the larger the group, the more difficult it gets, especially in a residence. Therefore, the best solution is to go buffet style. It also gives people the opportunity to choose what they want to eat. Whatever the case, there has to be planning and variety.

If you're thinking of pizza and other food that you can order in, it may be more costly than doing it yourself. Of course, catering is also very expensive and not in everyone's budget. If you have the time and a little skill, you can do it yourself.

The host or hostess just has to be smart about what they are going to serve. Many meals can be made in advance or at least prepared well in advance and placed in the freezer. When the time for celebrations arrives, it's a matter of thawing and reheating.

A good example of such foods includes stuffed shells, a casserole, meatballs and such. The main course can consist of a roast of any type. The good thing about this is the fact that it can be prepared the night before, and simply placed in a warm oven to roast slowly and with minimal supervision. The only thing left to do is prepare salads and side dishes.

Of course, decorating can be done in advance as well, even up to a week before so it you do not have too much to do on the given day. The day before your home party, clean all the rooms in order to keep it looking into the top shape

Pay special attention to how much time you have and try to be realistic with regards to what you can do and how long it will take you to do it, and multiply it by two just be safe. It will help you get moving well in advance.
