Top Tips For Taking High Quality Photos

By Shavonda Spurlin Arn

You've done it. You have decided that you want to go into photography or that you just want to take better photos. What great timing! You probably have lots of questions on how to start, but don't worry, this article can help. Listed below are some tips that will help you get started with your photography aspirations.

If you want to take your photography to the next level, then you need to think outside of the box. A good photograph is one you and others enjoy looking at. People enjoy interesting and unique things, so keep this in mind when you are out and about with your camera.

Decide if you are interested in a subject before you photograph it. Know that if a subject is seeming boring to you, it is going to be boring to future viewers of the image. Take some time to make your shots interesting, and you will be rewarded with better shots.

Pay attention to what is in the background when you are taking a picture. A relatively simple or plain background will better emphasize the subject of your picture. Make sure there is nothing distracting or embarrassing in the background that will draw attention away from the subject of your photograph.

When you are taking a picture of someone, hold the camera at their eye level so that the subject seems to make eye contact with the camera. Eye contact is just as engaging in a picture as it is in real life, so your picture will seem more lively and dramatic.

Invest in a softbox or flash diffuser. Traditional, built-in camera flashes often result in very harsh photos, where the light colors are too bright, and the shadows too dark. If you cannot afford to purchase a softbox, which provides softer lighting, attach a diffuser to your flash. This disperses the light and softens the photo.

As a photographer, you cannot have tunnel vision. You need to be able to see more. Think of yourself like an eagle flying above and looking down over the entire landscape, not as a sniper trained on a single object through a scope. Seeing more of what's around you is how you get the best shots.

Learn the apertures of the camera and understand how they are used. The aperture varies the amount of light allowed to travel through the lens which expands and contracts to allow this light to pass through. The more light that is allowed to travel through the lens, more objects in the photo will be in focus. The less light allowed through, the focus will shift to only focusing on objects in the foreground.

Now you should be much more prepared when it comes to photography. If you thought that you were ready before, well you should now be an expert on it! The tips that were given should have provided you some advice that can help you get started with bettering your photography skills.
