How to Decide on a Dog

By Peter Fred Smith

Many people are very anxious to have a dog in their home but when it comes time to decide what type of dog they should get, the choices seem very intimidating. There are so many options it is hard to pick one.

If you do some research you can limit the decisions you have to make. When you think about several different factors, your decision will be much easier to make.

You will want to consider where the dog will be living and then go from there. You don't want to place the dog in a situation that won't agree with the particular type of dog.

Smaller homes should really only accommodate smaller dogs because larger ones need more room to play. Bigger dogs can run around if they have more space but if they have less space then it could be a problem.

Every dog has a different disposition and so you will want to make sure to get the right dog for the type of space you are living in. Some dogs will need more space than others.

You will also be deciding about how much grooming the dog will need. Often dogs with longer hair will require more attention in order to maintain the health of their coat.

You should also consider how much money you have to spend on the dog because bigger dogs require more food. Smaller dogs eat less so they are less expensive to maintain in that respect.

If you have older people or children at home then consider how the dog is with these types of people. If it is wild, you will want to be careful.

Whenever you make your decision, it will always be better when you consider this information. Then you can have fun with your dog at home.
