It was just past the one year warrantee. It is ruined and has not successfully dried out. Haven't submerged it (yet) but have used it in a rainstorm with no problems. I bought one of the Tough cameras a few years ago. On opening it up - it had got water in, shorted the battery and the terminal. Two days and it fails - never buy this! The 6020 is the perfect camera to carry during kayaking. I don't have to worry about ruining it if it gets wet.
Purchased this camera thinking it would be great for taking underwater photos. I used it 2 times and had to send it in for repair.
I was super excited to get this camera because I had done so much research and comparison shopping beforehand...I even tried it at the local Best Buy and it seemed at the time to be a great buy, and to top it off, I saved over $100 by purchasing it on Amazon! However, I have now tested it in several situations/environments with the exception of underwater, and I'm seriously disappointed in the functionality of the camera as well as the quality of the pictures that are coming out. The camera is slow and I expected that from other reviews, I can deal with that. The issue is the poor focus, sound and mid light conditions.
Save your money and buy one with a separate underwater housing- wish I had now.
I sent the camera back to Amazon with explanation and they gave me a refund no questions asked. The battery compartment was closed so I don't know if this was a defect or fluke. Movies are spectacular, while the screen shows good reproduction, its nothing like once you get it on your computer! The metal lens protector on the front will move and not bounce back to position if the camera is turned off.
It's pretty sturdy and thicker than the last one I had but it is still very light. I have not yet tested the waterproofing yet, nor dropped it on purpose because I would rather not scratch it.
Good price, nice clear pictures. It has a built-in owner's manual to some extent, but when we tried to initialize it following that manual it jammed up and wouldn't complete the function. The camera is the slowest when taking multiple pictures in a row with the flash. The flash does take some time to recharge, but I don't think this is a big issue.
I bought this camera in replacement of my former Olympus Stylus 720SW which had broken after my son opened the battery cover while taking pictures in the lake. I love, love, love my 720SW, and assumed that the current Olympus water-proof cameras would be an equally quality product. If you open it while it is wet or your hands are wet, then you should expect problems. After videotaping under water, I waited the suggested time, and made sure it was all dry, then opened the camera up to hook up to my computer.
